An intro to metacafe.com
getting paid to create and host videos!

Author: Christos Lelidis

Some of you might know the alternative youtube host service; it’s called metacafe and it is expanding rapidly! Metacafe shouts that 50 million viewers per month visit their website!

But what are the main advantages of Metacafe.com? (from my pov)

As a user of metacafe.com i found many handy features when i use this video hosting service.

At first it’s FREE, no payed subscription nor hidden fees but TOTALLY FREE. This is the key for a website or service to succeed now days! Nobody like to pay for services, but users like to pay for nice content. And this is the main goal of Metacafe.com; offers much content for visitors to view and download!It utilizes an advance embed option you may find handy to use in your blog, social networking sites, emails, etc.

Unlimited bandwidth and unlimited storage size for your video creations; i think it’s really a god’s gift!

A vast number of potential subscribers for your channel may lead your creation to success easily, but nothing comes without devotion. You must work/build social relationship. You may ask why do i need those guys and not just share the video in blogs or elsewhere? Because you need metacafe signed users to RATE your videos (often external viewers simply watch the video and don’t rate it because they have to sign up to metacafe to do this).

Video producers now can get paid for their creations and I mean big $$. How can this be achieved? Easily and with no trouble at all. All you have got to do is when you upload a video YOU have created (tips explained below) simply tick the PRODUCER REWARDS option when you complete the metadata form. The PRODUCER REWARDS PROGRAM is how the video creator can get paid. There is a catch here be carefull; you and only you must be the creator (or have all copyright license) of the video you upload and want to participate to the P.R. program. This means that any music you use in the video must be licensed to you, any person you shoot in the video must give you written permission etc. otherwise the video will be “banned” from the program.

Your video must meet the following criteria:

* Ownership
You hold full rights to the video. This may mean getting signed permission from all the people in the video.
* License
You are willing to give Metacafe a non-exclusive license to the content. This means that Metacafe can promote your video (in whole or in part) on Metacafe or in any other media. “Non-exclusive” means you have the right to sign similar deals with as many other companies as you want.
* Content Rating
Your video must be suitable for a mainstream audience. That means no adult, erotic, violent or hateful content.

WHEN THE BIG BUCKS WILL COME?
When your video reaches 20.000 views and get a rate of 3.0 then is eligible for payment! These are the rules! After that the creator gets payed as :

TECHNICAL TIP

* Length
Metacafe recommends videos that are between 20 seconds and six minutes long. Videos that are shorter or longer may qualify at Metacafe’s discretion. submit videos that are entertaining, funny, amazing and cool.

* Be Carefull with the video resolution
Your creation must have exceptional resolution. This means that if you create a video from your computer desktop use zoom when you click to menus, etc. My first video didn’t get an approval (failed) cause the resolution was bad and metacafe couldn’t share it to mobile phones (although it had 3,976 views and 3.46 rate IN TWO DAYS ONLY!!!).

* USE THE BEST RESOLUTION YOU CAN GET!
I’ll post an article about the best resolution tips in the near future.

Do/Don’t Do

* Do check the site regularly. Come and see what works… and what works less.
* Do keep a backup of anything you submit to Metacafe. We cannot return any of your videos and we cannot guarantee that they will be suitable for presentation on Metacafe.
* Don’t submit videos that are not your own. You won’t get paid for them and your account may get canceled.
* Don’t plan any dangerous stunts or set up any perilous pranks in the hope of catching something great. Metacafe bears no responsibility for any injuries to your person or your pride.
* Don’t worry about promoting your video – our unique rating system will make sure it reaches the audience it deserves. Outstanding videos will quickly rise to the top. Don’t get discouraged if your video isn’t accepted to Producer Rewards. Keep trying. You can submit as many videos as you want until you create that runaway hit.

What personally don’t like and want metacafe to implement…

I hope someday that metacafe will allow to embed videos from external hosting service. I personally don’t have the time to post to various video hosting services (i like the flixya embed option).

Also want metacafe to implement more types of grab embed code (such as permalink, thumbnail link, javascript flash, quicktime, etc). In this way users can embed their metacafe hosted videos to as many websites as they can (there are some websites that doesn’t allow embed code).
