A handy tip comes for all of you Premiere PRO editors in case you want to mass re-link media files when you open a project.
There are many times when you are working with a Adobe Premiere project, you want to locate and link missing media files like video, stills, audio, etc. This happened because you copied the .pproj file elsewhere than the original path. Have you tried to re-link 100 or more offline files? Manually? In tight deadlines?
Awful!
What you should do to speed up the process a little bit?
At first locate your original .pproj file and make a backup.
Open the copy in Wordpad and search for a line containing the word Filepath.
Keep hitting find next until you find the original drive letter indicated after FilePath which looks like this: < filepath > C:.
Assuming that the original location of the file is in the hard drive C:.

Now if you replace the drive letter with the one you want and save the .pproj file, when you open it in Premiere the re-link will be done automatically and without asking you to locate the offline file(s).
I think this tip will work also with subdirectories but I haven’t checked it (post a message if you do).
THIS WON’T WORK IF YOUR MEDIA FILES IS SCATTERED OVER VARIOUS DRIVES.
Again be cautious and backup your original .pproj file. This process may destroy your valuable premiere project file and it will be your fault only! Backup, backup and work with the copy not the original file.
I really don’t understand why Premiere PRO haven’t implemented the fantastic feature After Effects has for the missing files, when it asks for one file then automatic replace ALL the missing footage…why not Adobe?

It happens if you move your original media files as well. Which I sometimes do quite often. Why? Because I want to link with other files, not the originals. You can link any file to any other file in Premiere, as long as the audio has the same number of channels.

This tip saved my day.
After I upgrade my hardware with a new HD (the drive letter was lost)
I had to relink several files of a pproj.
I tried your tip and voila the files imported automatically.
No more click to link media files, thanks.
(I wonder why Adobe don’t implement same import feature in Premiere like AE…)
