THE DIARY OF A PROBLEM:
I have purchased a blackmagic decklink studio 2 card (driver version 8.0) to use it as a live downstream keyer (connecting it with my vision mixer Panasonic AG-MX70 – with no SDI option card) a.k.a DSK in a live production. I heard of a software called Blufftitler iTV, from the Dutch company called Outerspace software, which makes 3D titles and animations very easily and fast! This application have an option to send its graphic results through a deckling card using the Connect to SDI framebuffer option. This was what I wanted… flexibility and a good (but cheap) analog keyer.
But wait, I just said analog keyer…the option is SDI framebuffer…what is going on? Although Blackmagic states that Decklink products such Decklink Studio is also a SDI keyer it can be connected through analog connections and be an analog keyer (schematics below). This wasn’t really a big problem… a little tweaking in the settings of my panasonic mx70 settings and voila… a descent transparent lower third in the pgm monitor!
Now it was time to click Blufftitler’s Settings->Connect to SDI framebuffer option.
I loaded an animation and clicked the above option but this error message pop up!
This is pretty simple, change the animation’s resolution to a Decklink Studio 2 compatible resolution (I used SD D1 PAL – 720×576 pixels)
But when I clicked Connect to SDI framebuffer option the animation played very slow! Blufftitler iTV became unresponsive and slow, I tried to click Disconnect from SDI framebuffer option and then the application came to normal state (the animation played realtime).
I thought it was a DirectX90.c problem so I installed it again…nothing changed. I called to Outerspace support but they couldn’t help me (they were very polite) with this kind of problem so I google searched again the net for a possible solution but no luck…
THE BIGBRAIN SOLUTION:
I visited Blackmagic official website and I downloaded the Decklink Studio drivers ver 7.3.1 and I installed those. After instalation and a system restart, it asked me for a firmware update (actually it’s a downgrade). Again a reboot was essential. And…This WORKED!
Now I have 25fps (realtime) output both in the PC and in PGM live output.
PHEW! It Worked!!!
When you install a Decklink driver it will update the firmware of the card as well (there is a common thing for Blackmagic due to various software updates). Blufftitler iTV (8.2.03) interconnectivity with Decklink (ver 8.0) were problematic (because of Decklink Studio firmware) and a downgrade of Decklink Studio driver to ver 7.3.1 is the safest solution.
